Mobile app for a pharmacy chain

For one of the largest pharmacy chains in Kazakhstan — 505 stores across 13 cities — we built a mobile app: a catalogue synced from 1C with live stock for every branch, reservation with in-store pickup, delivery, QR cashback and features no other pharmacy chain in the country offers.

Live prototype

This is not a mockup — the app works

The phone on the right is clickable. Search with typos, look at generics with the saving calculated, tick off a dose in the treatment course, ask the AI consultant. Catalogue, prices and branches are the chain’s real data.

  • Type “atarvastatin” with a typo — the app still finds it
  • Open a product and check the generics block with the saving
  • Tap the bonus card — it flips into a QR code for the till
  • Ask the consultant about chest pain — you’ll see the AI’s boundaries

Что сделали

What the app does

Find a medicine, check stock nearby, reserve it — and come back again.

iOS + Android

A single app for both platforms, published to the App Store and Google Play under the chain brand.

1C integration

Product data, prices and per-branch stock come from 1C. Receipts from the till flow back and credit cashback.

Stock by branch

See which pharmacy has the medicine right now, how many packs are left and at what price.

QR cashback

The customer shows a QR code at the till — bonuses are credited automatically and cover up to half of the next purchase.

Treatment course

Reminders on schedule, pack-remaining calculation and an automatic re-order three days before it runs out.

AI consultant

Suggests over-the-counter options from the described symptoms, recognises red flags and refers the customer to a doctor.

01Challenge

The country’s 4th largest chain had no app

The chain runs 505 pharmacies and grows faster than anyone on the market, yet its only online storefront ran on a third-party aggregator platform. Traffic, customer data and loyalty effectively went to someone else.

02Research

We started with customer reviews

We went through reviews of the branches and found the same complaints repeating: the pharmacy is closed during stated hours, nobody answers the phone, a medicine is listed in stock but is not there. The feature set was designed directly against those pains.

  • Live "open now" status
  • Real per-branch stock
  • Reservation with in-store pickup
  • Digital receipt
03Build

Catalogue, loyalty and AI

We built a catalogue with active-substance search, per-branch stock, reservation and delivery, and tiered cashback. Then added treatment course tracking, generic matching, a family medicine cabinet and an AI consultant with strict boundaries.

Outcome

A clickable prototype in a single day

We assembled a working prototype on the chain’s real catalogue and showed it before any contract was signed: real products, real prices, real branches. The client decided while looking at a product, not a slide deck.

The project’s second product

Admin panel for a 505-store chain

The app is only half of the solution. The other half is the panel the chain runs its products, branches, loyalty and campaigns from. We built it on the same core and shaped it around pharmacy specifics — drawing on practices from industry pharmacy management systems and Kazakhstan’s regulatory requirements.

Stockouts measured in moneyNot “searched 162 times” but “497,372 ₸ lost”. Demand the shelf failed to cover turns into a figure you can put in front of purchasing.
Auto-ordering and thresholdsThe system proposes min and max stock levels from each branch’s actual sales — 505 stores cannot be tuned by hand.
Network-wide stockOne pharmacy’s surplus covers another’s shortage by transfer instead of purchase: the chain already paid for that stock.
Branch disciplineCustomers report from the app that a pharmacy is closed during stated hours. Management sees which branches break the schedule systematically.
Chronic patient programmeSynchronising refill dates for long-term treatment plus reminders — the most predictable revenue in pharmacy retail.
Kazakhstan complianceGS1 DataMatrix marking, automatic blocking of sales above the regulated price ceiling, recalled and falsified batches.
AI analystA question in plain language, an answer from the chain’s own data. No exports, no pivot tables, no analyst on staff.
Loyalty on the flyCashback rates, tiers, expiry periods and the share of a bill payable with points change in the panel and apply in the app immediately.
The panel sits behind a separate login and is not linked from the public part of the project.
Вопросы по проекту

Частые вопросы

How long does it take to build an app for a pharmacy chain?+

The full turnkey package takes 20 working days from data access to publication on the App Store and Google Play. That is possible because the platform core is already written and battle-tested on other projects.

How does the app get stock and prices?+

Through a 1C integration: products, prices and per-branch stock are pulled on a schedule, and receipts from the till flow back to credit cashback. If 1C access is not available yet, we start from an Excel export and connect the direct exchange later.

What about prescription-only medicines?+

Those items are flagged separately and delivery for them is disabled at the order-logic level — only reservation and in-store pickup are available. The app is designed ahead of the tightening rules on online medicine sales in Kazakhstan.

Is it safe to use AI in a pharmacy app?+

The AI only suggests over-the-counter products, never diagnoses and never replaces a doctor’s prescription. On red-flag symptoms it stops suggesting and refers the customer to a doctor. Without those boundaries a medical app does not pass App Store and Google Play review.
