Video analytics involves recording plus neural networks: each analyzed stream requires CPU or GPU resources. A server is designed based on the number of analytics channels, not just cameras: 16 facial recognition channels put more load on the system than 100 recording channels.
For up to 8–12 channels of motion and line-crossing detection, the CPU is sufficient. Facial, license plate, and PPE recognition on 16+ channels requires a GPU: a single L4/RTX A-series card replaces dozens of cores and removes scaling limits.
