How to choose a server for 1C

How many cores does a server for 1C need?

Best practice rule: one physical core per 8–10 active users in client-server mode, plus 4 cores for SQL and OS. For 25 users, 8 cores are sufficient; for 50, 12+; for 100, 20+. It is not just the number of cores that matters, but the frequency: 1C is single-threaded per session, so a Xeon with 3.0+ GHz will provide more responsive transactions than a slower processor with more cores.

How much RAM should I get?

Minimum 16 GB for the system and 1C server, plus 1–1.5 GB per active user in client-server mode, plus memory for the DBMS: PostgreSQL runs comfortably when the working set of the database fits into RAM. For 50 users with a 30–60 GB database, a reasonable starting point is 64–96 GB with spare slots for future expansion.

Which drives do you need: SSD or NVMe?

Disk speed is the main factor behind 1C performance issues after locking. For a file-based database with up to 10 users, SSD SATA in RAID1 is sufficient. For a client-server setup, choose NVMe: random read/write speeds are 5–7 times faster, significantly accelerating document reposting and month-end closing. Store backups on separate high-capacity HDDs.

File-based or client-server database?

For up to 5–8 concurrent users, a file-based database is acceptable. Beyond that, a client-server mode with PostgreSQL or MS SQL is mandatory: otherwise, table locks will paralyze the department during peak hours. A server for SQL has specific memory and disk requirements that we account for when selecting a configuration.

FAQ — Server for 1C

Which server is needed for 1C with 20 users?

For 20 users in client-server mode, a single-processor server with 8 cores at 3.0 GHz+, 48–64 GB of RAM, and a pair of NVMe drives in a mirror is sufficient — for example, a Dell PowerEdge R350 or HPE ProLiant DL20 Gen10. The price benchmark in Kazakhstan starts from 900,000 ₸.

Which server is needed for 1C with 50 users?

From 12 cores, 96 GB RAM, NVMe in RAID10 for databases, and separate disks for backups: Dell PowerEdge R450/R650 or HPE DL360 Gen10 are suitable. Such a platform handles both SQL and 1C application servers on a single machine.

Can 1C and video surveillance be hosted on the same server?

Technically yes — via virtualization with separate disk pools: 1C is sensitive to NVMe latency, while video archives are sensitive to HDD capacity. We will calculate such a server for both tasks; it is cheaper than two separate machines.

Is it better to buy a server for 1C or rent in the cloud?

With 15+ users, an on-premise server pays for itself in 12–18 months compared to renting cloud services in Kazakhstan, while data and speed remain under your control. Leasing is available for legal entities — the payment is comparable to a cloud subscription, but the server remains yours.

How much does a server for 1C cost in Kazakhstan?

Working configurations start from 500,000–900,000 tenge for an entry-level platform and go up to 3–4 million for a dual-processor server for 100+ users. We calculate the exact price based on the number of users and database size — free of charge, on the day of inquiry.
