How to choose: answering the main questions
RDS or full VDI?
Windows RDS terminal sessions — simpler and denser: 40–60 office sessions per dual-processor server. Full VDI (a dedicated VM for each user) is needed for strict isolation and 'heavy' software; density is lower — 20–30 machines per server.
How many resources are needed for a workstation?
Office profile: 2 vCPU, 4–6 GB RAM, 30–50 GB on SSD. Engineering with graphics — two to three times more plus vGPU. Drives — SSD/NVMe only: one hundred people opening Excel in the morning will crash any HDD array.
What about graphics for designers?
NVIDIA cards with vGPU (A16/L4) are shared between sessions, providing a local-machine experience for AutoCAD/KOMPAS in a terminal environment. This requires a custom calculation — please send us your software list.
