VDI moves employee desktops to the server: thin clients at workstations cost pennies, data never leaves the server room, and software updates are handled in one place. It becomes cost-effective starting from 15–20 workstations.
Windows RDS terminal sessions — simpler and denser: 40–60 office sessions per dual-processor server. Full VDI (a dedicated VM for each user) is needed for strict isolation and 'heavy' software; density is lower — 20–30 machines per server.

No, old PCs can function perfectly as terminals for another 5+ years, as the workload is shifted to the server. This is one of the main cost-saving benefits of VDI.
Server — 2.5–3.5 million ₸, RDS licenses are separate. In terms of cost per seat, it is cheaper than a fleet of new desktops from the start, and maintenance costs are significantly lower.
For critical deployments, we install two nodes with replication: sessions move to the standby node. A single-node VDI is suitable where an hour of downtime is not critical.
