R660 is the 16th generation of PowerEdge: 4th Gen Xeon Scalable processors, DDR5 memory, and PCIe Gen5 bus. R650 is the previous, 15th generation: 3rd Gen Xeon, DDR4, and PCIe Gen4. Both are dual-socket 1U servers for virtualization, databases, and enterprise services. The performance difference per core is 15–25% in favor of the R660, with up to 50% higher memory bandwidth.
Three scenarios: heavy databases with high query concurrency, dense virtualization with a 5+ year horizon, and memory-bound tasks (in-memory caches, analytics). DDR5 and PCIe Gen5 provide a performance buffer that will keep you ahead of growing workloads for years to come.
If the load is known and stable — 1C for 50–100 people, standard virtualization, file and terminal services — the R650 does the same job noticeably cheaper. DDR4 components and disks for it are also cheaper, and there are many refurbished configurations with warranties available on the secondary market.
In our catalog, the R660 starts from 2.05 million ₸, and the R650 from 2.33 million ₸ for base configurations (we can explain this paradox: the R650 currently has more advanced configurations in stock). The final price depends on the processors and memory, so it is best to compare configurations built specifically for your task — we do this free of charge.
